Heavenly Glazed Donuts


2 pkgs. instant/rapid rise yeast

¼ cup, plus 1 teaspoon very warm water

1 12 oz. can Evaporated Milk; warmed

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon kosher salt

2 large eggs

5 tablespoon shortening (I use Crisco)

5 cups flour

La Spagnola oil

½ cup candy sprinkles

Glaze Ingredients

1/3 cup salted butter; melted

3 ½ cups confectioners sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla

½ cup hot water


1 combined yeast and warm water in bowl of stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment; stir until yeast dissolves

2 and milk, salt, eggs, shortening and 2 cups flour; mix on low speed until flour is Incorporated; stop the scrape down sides of bowl; sift remaining 3 cups of flour into lumped lumpy mixture; mix by hand 1 minute

3 attach bowl to stand mixer; beat on medium speed until dough ball comes together; turn dough out onto clean work surface knead two minutes by hand; place dough back into mixing bowl; cover with plastic wrap and dish towel; place bowl in warm area; rise one hour or until dough doubles in size

4 using rolling pin, roll dough 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured work surface; cut donuts into desired shape using donut cutter or cookie cutter can be substituted

5 arrange cut donuts on lightly floured cookie sheet; cover with dish towel; rise 30-40 minutes in warm place until double in size

6 heat oil in large pan to approximately 350°; carefully placed donuts into hot oil using spatula; fry donuts 2.5 minutes; turn donuts; fry 2 minutes or until golden brown; remove donuts from hot oil; cool on wire rack lined cookie sheet

7 whisk butter, confectioners sugar, vanilla and water until smooth creamy glaze comes together

Note~ to make Chocolate Glaze; simply add 1/4 cup melted chocolate to glaze; whisk well; dip each donut into creamy glaze

8 place dipped donuts on wire rack; top with candy sprinkles; let set 5 minute before placing on serving platter
